Client-First is a CSS development framework specifically built for Webflow.
Created by Finsweet, a well-known agency in the Webflow ecosystem, it has become a go-to standard for structuring Webflow projects.
Why Client-First?
Client-First is a class naming methodology for Webflow. Its goal is to provide a clear, scalable structure that can be easily understood by any team taking over a project on the platform.

Originally developed for Finsweet’s internal needs, the product was widely shared and distributed within the ecosystem.
- Integrated into many component libraries (like Relume)
- Featured in multiple tutorials and training videos on YouTube (Finsweet, Digidop, etc.)
- Documented in several languages to reach an international community
Today, Client-First is one of the most used frameworks in the ecosystem. It has even become more professional with the launch of an official certification.
The Client-First certification
Launched in 2021 during a bootcamp with 5 pilot partners, the Client-First certification is now available to anyone wishing to demonstrate their expertise. It’s a paid certification that lists both agencies and freelancers directly on Finsweet’s website.

Our take on Client-First
Client-First has proven itself—it’s a framework that stands the test of time and remains accessible even for beginners. It ensures clarity and long-term maintainability for Webflow projects with one main drawback: the lack of fast updates to keep up with Webflow and web evolutions in general.
Ironically, this drawback is also its strength: a simple, stable, and easy-to-adopt framework—even for teams discovering Webflow for the first time.

Alternatives to Client-First
In 2025, the main alternative is Lumos, the framework developed by Timothy Ricks. Others exist, each with their own strengths and limitations.
